About Matt Walker:

Matt Walker is a Chicago-based drummer renowned for his dynamic and versatile performances across a variety of musical genres, including rock, alternative, and experimental. Starting his career in the mid-1980s, he played with several Chicago bands before joining Filter in 1994, touring extensively in support of their album Short Bus. Walker’s career took a significant turn when he joined The Smashing Pumpkins during their Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness world tour, stepping in after the departure of Jimmy Chamberlin. He contributed to the Pumpkins’ Adore album and their single “The End Is the Beginning Is the End,” featured on the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

Walker has played with Morrissey from 2006 to the present, contributing to the albums Years of Refusal and World Peace Is None of Your Business. In addition to high-profile collaborations with Adam Ant, Ric Ocasek, and Billy Corgan, he has led his own creative projects, including the band Cupcakes and his experimental ventures, Impossible Recording Machine and of1000faces.

His tenure with Garbage included contributions to their Bleed Like Me album and touring as a substitute for Butch Vig. Walker’s signature style is marked by his technical prowess and adaptability, often using vintage Gretsch drum kits and Zildjian cymbals.

Today, he continues to contribute to music both onstage and in the studio, inspiring audiences and musicians alike.
